Flavio Wagner is going to remove the previous WG10.5 web-site and e-mail address list from UFRGS, Brazil. All has been sent to Grenoble, and updated.

- Information from IFIP TC 10 last meeting, March 15 2011 in Grenoble, by Dominique Borrione and Ricardo Reis

A new Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) has been elaborated for events that are shared between IFIP and IEEE or ACM. This document must be signed as soon as possible after an event of the working group has been decided, and is co-sponsored. Matthew Guthaus reports that the round of signatures has taken 3 months for VLSI_SOC 2012.

It is recalled that there is a fee per day per participant for all events for which IFIP has a financial implication. It is a way for IFIP to raise funds.
In counterpart, travel grants can be allocated to PhD students coming from regions or institutions that could not support their attendance to the event, if they have an accepted contribution.
For 2011, WG10.5 can claim up to 6500 US$ for this purpose, for PhD students wanting to attend VLSI_SOC 2011. Prior application to the grant is required.

IFIP cannot lose money on a WG event. If the Institution of the General Chair cannot cover possible financial loss, an insurance must be taken, and its cost should be budgeted and included in the registration fee.

- Update on VLSI-SoC 2011 by Dominique Borrione using presentation prepared by Chi-Ying Tsui and Salvador Mir (see attached .pdf document)

VLSI-SOC is well under way.
The Easychair system will be used for paper submission and for the review process.
The call for papers has been largely distributed, and sent by e-mail.
The PhD forum submission deadline has been extended to June 10.

- Update on VLSI-SoC 2012 by Matthew Guthaus (see attached .pdf document)

Paper work has been dealt with.
Support has been given by the University.
Call for paper is out and was distributed during the meeting for participants to distribute in the events they attend. More copies are available, can be requested to Matthew.
Good price has been negotiated with the hotel of the conference, and the hotel has accepted to make the reservation without deposit. A loan from IFIP won't be badly needed.
The web site for VLSI_SOC 2012 is up, and already pointed by the web site of VLSI_SOC 2011.
The main responsibilities have been assigned. The members of the technical program committee will be invited after VLSI_SOC 2011, as a result of the feed-back from Salvador. The objective is to carry at least half of the committee from one conference to the next, to ensure continuity.
As a matter of courtesy to the WG members, they should be invited to the TPC (with some deadline for reply), once the topics have been decided.

- Update on VLSI-SoC 2013 by Alex Orailoglu

Alex had made a first proposal for VLSI_SOC in Istanbul, which was presented at the WG meeting in Madrid. As a result of the comments and questions, it is the current understanding of the working group that the main posts are as follows:

We are still missing a complete proposal, that should include:

The more definite proposal has to be provided in writing by the General Chair, and circulated to the WG for formal approval (can be made by e-mail). After approval by the WG, the next urgent step is to start the paper work with IFIP, and have the MOU signed.

Dominique will send an electronic copy of the MOU to Alex Orailoglu (Alex@cs.ucsd.edu)

- Update on WG 10.5 assigned focus of interest: “Green-IT”

Some members are actively involved in the design of energy efficient systems. Juergen Becker insists that Green IT is a much wider topic, and includes “smart grids” for instance. The WG decides that, the day before the start of VLSI_SOC, a scientific workshop limited to the working group members will be devoted to position statements and scientific presentations on the theme of “Green IT”. The workshop will last a half day, and will be distinct from the WG meeting that deals with administrative matters. All WG members are expected to contribute, and discuss, in order to determine the form that the mission could take for the working group, as a contribution to the scientific community.
