Due to the very low attendance, the WG members decided to devote the meeting solely to the discussion of new technical activities to be launched.

It has been decided that technical workshops should be held together with all future WG meetings. These workshops should promote the discussion of very advanced issues in the field of Design and Engineering of Electornic Systems, ahead of the current state-of-the-art.

The workshops would constitute a series named "Frontiers in <variable subject>", where a particular subject would be selected for each meeting mainly according to its relevance to the local scientific community at the meeting’s site.

For the next meeting, to be held in Darmstadt, Germany, on November 30th 2003, the subject "Automotive Electronics" has been chosen. The workshop should consist of invited speakers from the automotive industry and academia, as well as contributed papers. A local workshop organizer in Germany must be found.

Money from TC 10 could be asked for supporting the participation of invited speakers from industry.

The members discussed the role and mission of the WG. They reached the conclusion that this discussion should be postponed and reconsidered after new activities of the group are launched and succeed (or fail). Examples of these activities are the PhD forum (to be held together with the upcoming VLSI-SoC conference in Darmstadt), the Workshop on Education and E-Learning (to be held together with the IFIP World Computer Congress in Toulouse) and the series of workshops "Frontiers".
