Welcome

Masahiro thanks our hosts Jaan Raik and Maksim Jenihhin for organizing the venue of the meeting.

Introduction of new member: Luciano Ost

Luciano Ost introduced himself. His current main interest is the exploration of system-level reliability techniques for emerging multi/many core systems, including:

-       simulation based fault injection

-       identification of typical and critical errors

-       the proposal of new solutions

As a contribution to the WG activities, Luciano Ost offers to bring VLSI-SOC back to Great Britain (the venue of 1991 was in Edinburgh) for the 30th anniversary of the conference. It could take place in York or in Leicester.

Status of the VLSI-SOC 2015 book by Kiyoung Choi

The book of VLSI-SoC 2015 revised best papers (VLSI-SOC'15 book) is printed, and one copy was brought by Kiyoung Choi.

Masahiro, in the name of the working group, congratulates and thanks Kiyoung Choi.

Status of preparation of VLSI-SoC 2017 in Abu Dhabi by Ibrahim Elfadel

See attached slides. Information on slides is not repeated here.

October in Abu Dhabi is very nice: 18¡C, no humidity.

The venue will be at the Yas Viceroy Hotel, a five stars hotel. The price of the rooms will be in the order of 150Û/person/night including breakfast. There are also 5 cheaper other hotels in the vicinity. For instance, the Park Inn is 90$/night.

Concerning the meeting rooms, there will be:

-       a Ball room, hosting 250 people, that may be divided for parallel sessions

-       a Board room, hosting 10-15 people, for meetings

Both are charged 230 AED/person/day with refreshments.

185 attendees are expected.

The Masdar Institute has set up a 65 000$ loan for early expenditures, including deposit for the reservation of the hotel.

The Call for Papers is made and two versions are distributed to the meeting attendees: a one A4 page version (see attached file IFIP_VLSI_2017_One Page_09192016.pdf), and a folded four-page version in A5 format (see attached file IFIP_VLSI_2017_09082016.pdf). The call is approved.  Ibrahim brought 100 paper copies of the Call for Papers and it is decided to distribute it to the participants of VLSI'2016.

The web site of the conference is planned for mid-October.

The TPC should be elaborated by the end of the year. The VLSI-SoC 2016 Program Chairs should be remembered to transmit the list of their TPC members with recommendations on who performed well and could be invited to the new TPC (information that will be requested from the track chairs). This list will be passed to the next TPC chairs, and to the Chair of the Steering Committee (Salvador Mir).

Proposals for the organization of VLSI-SoC 2018 and 2019

There had been previous proposals for having VLSI-SOC 2018 in the USA: Boston area; but there was no confirmation of interest. None of the USA proposers attended the current decision making meeting, nor were represented.

Ricardo Reis proposed Posnan, Poland in combination with IFIP World Computer Congress. According to Kiyoung Choi who organized VLSI-SoC 2015, colocation with the WCC helped with administrative matters, but did not help attendance. In the Posnan Conference Committee, there would be no representative of WG 10.5 and it was felt that the requirements of the WG and of the Steering Committee might not be properly taken care of. Moreover, no one presented an elaborated project for Posnan to the WG: such presentation had been requested before the approval of all previous venues.

The price of the rooms will be in the order of 150Û/person/night without breakfast.

Ricardo requests that the week September 15-21, 2018 be avoided, because it is the week of IFIP WCC.
