Recogniton of the ambient context through the study of radio signals (WiFi or Bluetooth) propagation patterns

Published Nov. 3, 2021

Radio signals surrounding us in daily life environment emitted by WiFi routers, Bluetooth devices and also by our smartphones and smartwatches are becoming more and more pervasive. Have been demonstrated that the propagation pattern of signals highly depend on the environment status. For example, the propagation of the signals pattern in an empty room is very different from that of the same signal in a room with one or more person into it.

In this stage (that can easelly become a thesis proposal) we aim to use such variation of the propagation patterns to study the changes into the environment, for example,

  • understand when the room is empty and when someone is into it,
  • understand how many persons are into it (e.g. one, two, three ... )
  • understand what a person is doing into the room etc.

No specific knowledge is required, the student will be working only with Python.
